October 6th, 2012

I was up at 6:00am to get the pig on the cooker. I got it going by 6:30 and went back to bed and slept until milking time. Pretty much the whole day was tending the pig and cleaning up the place for the event tomorrow. But we did get a lot accomplished. Daren came over after finishing at Breeze and we moved the billy down to the refurbished, high-security hog pen. Cleaned up stalls, and got what we could do done. About 5:00 Chris and I began chopping pork for the BBQ. It was a long, tiring job. I don’t know how Jeff Allen (Allen & Sons) has managed to do this every day for the last 30 years or whatever he has been selling BBQ. Of course we were doing a whole hog, and most BBQ houses just use shoulders, but still. We finished by about 8:00, ate some BBQ for dinner, watched TV, and hit the sack, grateful for the rest. Farming is glamorous, you bet.
