May 7th, 2015

We’ve had a busy day here on the farm.   Anna Jacobsen  joined us yesterday, and she got her introduction to dairying this morning,  milking all the cows and goats.  After breakfast, Anna went to work with Beth in the garden.  Eliza and Maddy did chores, and we were scheduled to throw the remainder square bales up today but it seemed best to wait for Chris and Dillon to finish up work, so Madison and I went up to East to work on the cross fence.  We got all the wires pulled, although it was a bit of a pain because or spool of wire was pretty tangled.  About 2:30  she took the tractor back home while I finished up with cross fencing, and waited for a call from Christopher and Dillon.  About 3:30 I decided to call home to see how the hay project was proceeding, and noticed that the gate was open and all the cows had left the pasture!  So, my call home was a little more excited than I was planning.  The cows hadn’t left the property, but were happily foraging in the front pasture.  In a few minutes Eliza, Noah, Madison, Chris, and Dillon arrived and we quickly rounded up all the cows and got them back into the fence.  Better yet, Chris and Dillon had already picked up all the  hay and it is in the loft.  We have our year’s supply!  I was able to pretty much finish the cross-fence, except for the end piece and the gate.  I hung it, but it is a 12′ and we need a 14′.  I quit at around 6:00, and found a good dinner waiting for us back home. That’s it for the day at Woodcrest Farm.
