October 6th, 2014

IMG_0931[1]Over the weekend we welcomed Michael Fraade, a wwoofer from Connecticut, and David Scales, livestock intern.  Today was their first full work day on the farm, and both have decided to throw in the towel.  (Just kidding!)  IMG_0932 Maddy and David handled the milking; Beth and Michael did the bottling, and I fixed the water heater.  After milking and chores, Maddy, David, Kelly, and Michael moved our current crop of caves down to the middle pasture where they spent the rest of the day bawling for their bottles.  Next we tackled the garden, pulling up plastic mulch, drip tape, and weeds from all the rows we are done with.  Once unencumbered, we started mowing the grass and tilling the spent rows.  David did the tilling and learned how to drive the tractor at the same time.

For dinner, Beth had made pastrami out of one of our briskets, sauerkraut  from a cabbage, and Chris found some real pumpernickel bread which allowed us to have Woodcrest farm Reuben sandwiches and chicken soup for dinner.   We can’t complain about the food.
